當加州在前領路,全美其他各地就跟隨在後。在對抗煙草商所造成的致命病態流行方面,我們加州自然也不例外。在過去數十年中,我們將成年人的吸煙率降低60%以上、青少年的電子煙使用率達到全美最低、肺癌罹患率削減42%,並已拯救超過一百萬名加州居民免於與煙草相關的死亡,更已有兩個加州城市終止販售煙草產品,打造出更健康的社區。

儘管我們獲得巨大的進展,但煙草商仍然對我們社區的健康構成緊迫威脅,尤其對孩子們更是如此。煙草業加倍致力推行他們的商業模式,也就是通過讓年輕人對電子煙及尼古丁口含煙袋等產品上癮來牟取利潤。他們在網上及社交媒體上針對孩子為目標,誤導他們認為尼古丁無害的。雖然加州的青少年電子煙使用率已經是全美最低,但電子煙仍是最常被使用的煙草產品,目前有6%的高中生吸電子煙,而加州高中生中尼古丁口含煙袋的使用率更在一年內幾乎翻倍。
