煙草商吸引孩子們上癮

煙草商的替代客戶無法合法購買他們的產品,但這並未阻止大煙草商營銷機器耗資數十億美元,以社交媒體廣告、有趣的口味,以及看似比父母使用的香煙危害更小的產品來針對孩子銷售。1

煙草商將商業模式建立在加倍致力讓年輕人上癮,他們在對孩子實驗新產品及新口味,並觀察何種最有效果的同時,也在危害孩子們的健康。這個產業創造出薄荷醇、藍莓、香蕉冰及北極清涼薄荷等口味,以掩蓋孩子們不喜歡的煙草刺激苦味,讓開始使用煙草產品更輕易,甚至更難戒除。23 大煙草商依賴年輕人使用他們的產品以賺取利潤,並得以繼續維持業務。4 口味電子煙是孩子們的首選產品,而使用電子煙的青少年有超出3倍的可能性成為日常吸煙者。35

絕大多數使用煙草的加州高中生都吸電子煙,而吸電子煙與使用其他煙草產品(如香煙)相較,更容易吸入及吸收更高濃度的尼古丁。36 尼古丁與海洛因一樣會令人上癮,不但會毒害發育中的大腦,還會重塑大腦對尼古丁產生更多渴望,如此會導致尼古丁戒斷症狀,如頭痛、煩躁,以及無法集中注意力。7891011 我們已知尼古丁會影響學習,並會增加焦慮不安、情緒波動、和暴躁易怒的感覺。12131415

但這並非都與電子煙有關,其他的煙草產品由於具有眾多口味、價格低廉,而且易於購買,因此也同樣深具吸引力,例如無煙的煙草,如鼻煙或嚼煙,以及雪茄煙和小雪茄。1617 不幸的是,這些產品對於發育中的大腦和身體也同樣有害,因為其中都含有尼古丁。18
